Dog broke his leg while jumping out of camper
« on: January 01, 2017, 03:32:15 PM »
Hey all!

New here! So my little guy jumped down from our "couch" and tore his knee. It's been 4 weeks of bed rest with a few more weeks to go.

Have any of you created safety measures to keep the little ones safe? We have a new mat for the step and also a gate so he can't jump. Besides carrying him outside everyday, any other suggestions?  Currently full-timing in a T@B camper so any suggestions would be awesome!

Can't really help, but I'm just curious as to how many "happycamperwives" do you have?

That screen name confused me as well!  :)

Back on topic though, pups and trailer doors can be challenging.  Typically I see them as easier than a truck, if I have carpet on the steps so their nails don't get snagged.

I've seen dog ramps advertised but they look to be a hazard to the people as they are harder to climb than steps.

My pugs have a safety feature built in.....theirs heads and chests are so heavy that they can't go down steps without theirs butts passing them up so when it comes time to go out they just stand there looking at you waiting for you to put them down. LOL

When our dogs were older we used a ramp with great success, also used a rug on the ramp for better traction. I would move the ramp after each use.

We may be the only ones here without a dog....

 :ihntasiajptrmpc:

Just wondering - did he jump off a piece of furniture or out of the T@B?  :o  :P  Regardless - here's to a speedy and complete recovery for the little guy.

Welcome to D&T!
A ramp or an extra step depending on how far the last step is to the ground.

I would suggest getting a little ramp! I think there are some that fold so it could be compact when not in use

Sorry to hear about your little guy.  But what I really want to know is how you manage to full time in a T@B!

Sorry to hear that about your dog. I hope he recovered by now. We're thinking of getting a dog as well but reading stories like this makes me hesitant a bit.
