Well, went and done it again
« on: March 25, 2014, 09:18:23 PM »
IDK if you remember or if I even mentioned it or not but a couple years ago we bought a fifth wheel for my in-laws to use to go with us on some of our trips. It was a very nice older unit ('05) that they ended up really loving. We went with a cheaper camper to make sure they were going to enjoy going and continue to go. Well after two seasons of going with us it looks like they are hooked because they are scheduled to go with us on all of our scheduled trips this year.

Soooo, we decided to get them something a little nicer, newer and in better mechanical shape. We went Saturday and made a deal on a 2012 Avalanche 290 RL. The DW told them today about it so they can be cleaning the old one out so we can take it in for trade this Saturday. I can tell you this, I get more joy seeing my FIL and MIL light up like kids on Christmas morning than I do buying something new for myself. I am probably as excited to pick it up for them as they are for getting it. I will get some pictures Saturday but here is one just about Identical to it.

Sorry, I had to share my excitement and no we didn't pay near that for it. The place we are buying it from don't have pictures and this one is almost exactly the same.

i am willing to join the family.....i have a 2010 that i would love to get upgraded to a 2012 or 2013....

what do i need to do ?  become a wildcats fan ?  louisville ?  drink more bourbon than i already do ?  start riding horses ?  learn to play the banjo ?  build a still ?  country line dance ?  choose a favorite NASCAR driver ?  commit to a beer brand and only drink it from cans ?  change religions ? (NASCAR is a religion, right ?)  drive a RAM ?  i'll cancel the ford order right now, just say the word.  i want in, i wanna hitch my trailer to yours !!!

but all kidding aside, it is a wonderful thing to help out family and have them camp with you.  my mom and dad camped with us for years, but now with dad at 82, he does not want to pull their 5'er anymore.  his truck and trailer are gonna be sold this spring  :(   my wife and i talked about going to a class A bunkhouse with them coming in on it with us, so i could do all the driving and they could ride in comfort.  but they just said we are done. dad works in the garden, keeps his bees, and mom tends her flowers and yard and they are happy.  it is a chapter that we are sad to see close, but it is their choice and we are just glad they are healthy and able to make it their choice rather than have it forced on them.....

get some pictures up, i look forward to seeing them !

Paul, I guess you can say we are starting that chapter you are finishing.

I got married to my wonderful wife young (just turned 17 and no, no baby involved). Her parents were not happy at first but ALWAYS treated me good and with great respect because even at a young age I worked my A off to get what I wanted and need. They deeded us a piece of property from their farm for free and co-signed for our first house , which by the way was about the same size as our current 5er.

I will never forget that helping hand in life. ;)

He (FIL) was kind-of forced into early retirement by the Corp of Engineers when closing the locks on the Ky river. He has since then had to farm very hard and log Cedars in the off season to make ends meet. His health is starting to slip because of this and we are scared of the outcome. We are currently trying to get them to sell out and move in our place with us and enjoy the rest of life without having to worry about making bills the way retirement should be.

Early in our marriage they helped make our lives a little easier in our tough start and now it's my turn to return the favor.

It's funny, we are trying to make their life less stressful but yet they called this morning before we left for work and said they can't sleep they are so excited. LOL! They'll just have to live through it until Sat. ;D

Oh wow…. in this crazy, upside down, inside out world we live in.  This is AWESOME!!!  Kindness just for sake of being kind returned with greater kindness of the same type - it doesn't get any better.

That's awesome Gary. What's even more awesome is you were married so young and you made it this far. Now THAT"S awesome! I guess we are in the pay it forward mode. Kind of payback as we also received help from our parents but not too much. They would have we just didnt need it. But our daughter and her husband are young and have struggled in this economy. We help them quite a bit. We also have a second camper that they use. They cant afford it and we can so I dont think twice about it. I want to enjoy time with my family and my two little grandsons. They both work hard and my daughter is still completing her BA so I know someday things will be better for them but I'm not waiting around. Live for today. Totally understand where your coming from! (Your toys are nicer though, me wonders if I should be fixing these trucks instead of driving them?)  ;D

Nope, won't work that way. I work on them and drive them and work on and install and drive what they haul too. Then after hours I'm fixin' other peoples cars. I have a Jeep this weekend that I think needs a torque converter.

We have noticed the same thing in our short time doing the RV thing.  A number of times sitting by the fire, DW and I have chatted about how awesome the people are.

You know, I got to thinking about this sentence......a lot. I wish you hadn't typed it because it is far from the truth. The toys I have are the toys that I want and the toys you have are the toys you want. I look at these things as one of many goals in life that we all shoot for. I think what makes people successful in life itself is to have goals and achieve those goals but not stop there and I won't and hope you won't either. Set new goals and shoot for them until you achieve those. Never put a cap on your goals and keep working towards them and you will always advance in life.

I want to make something clear and I hope that it is taken the way I intend it to be.
I post pictures of things I have not for bragging purposes but because I'm proud of where we (DW) are in life together compared to where we started. As posted before we started our life together 24 years ago and she was a recent HS grad and I was still a Jr in high school. All I had was a summer job making minimum wage and she didn't make much more at her full time job. We were and still are very much in love and both had the same basic goals at the time and that was to make it together no matter what people was telling us. All I heard was you are going to go through a very rough life from my elders. Were they right? HELL yes! but are old people always right? LOL!

I quit school that year and started working full time for Goodyear. I ended up landing a job as a welder for a local contractor that built industrial and commercial buildings. I was fortunate to have good people to learn from and learn is what I did. I was laying on these peoples shoulders asking questions and learning anything and everything I could. I played on the heavy equipment on my lunch hour and all. With in 5 years I was running jobs with my own crew.
My true love is running a crane. For some reason I love picking heavy stuff up. The harder the pick the more I like it. Unfortunately the company I work for did away with the steel division 3 years ago so the only time I get to be around cranes is when I go to the sites to work on something.

Long and stupid story made short, if it looks like I brag please tell me and I will stop posting these things because it is not the reason I do it. I do it because I'm proud of where I am as anyone should be that cares and I like to share my enjoyment with friends. ;)
