After 9 long years, we upgraded!!!
« on: April 20, 2017, 10:52:46 AM »
It took us long enough, but after 2 years of research and my DW finally saying she's had enough of being cramped, we upgraded in a BIG way...Say hello to the newest member of our family...we are still deciding on a name...Sydney did us well for 9 years, but it was time for the upgrade for sure.

Its a Columbus Compass Series 377MBC.  Has the mid-bunk with a loft up top.  We take delivery tomorrow and are going to camp in our driveway (is it wrong we have a full hookup at our house?)

Nice.

We still love our 2013 320 model.

We also just got in a new Compass 374BHC model on the lot. Pretty unique bunk model.

We are already experiencing that very phenomenon.  We have so much storage space we are finding that we're just putting stuff in drawers/cubbies just to have stuff there.  We take our first real camping trip this weekend out to the lake...my fear is we'll never leave the coach.  I'm amazed at the options/technology this thing has...6 point hydraulic auto level system, metal awning protector, residential fridge with ice maker (and separate underbelly drain for ice maker line), central vacuum, solid-surface counter tops, residential A/C intakes and ducting, A/C zoning, heated holding and waste tanks, battery disconnect, full coach water filtration, maxxair auto vent and fan, app to control many functions, etc.  We've come a long way baby!!

BTW, the weight was only 12K dry.  I have pulled it twice locally with my 3/4 ton, but looking to get a 1-ton with dual rear wheels shortly...let the brand wars begin...and for the record, my wife said no to Ford before I could even influence her cause she saw several at the dealer lot squatting with less weight on them than mine.

Let me make the decision easier. Show her my truck. I garrantee you won't squat this truck and will tow your camper like a dream. :)

Its a 2015 so no, however, its a 3500 so prolly no reason to worry about squatting.  Got a heck of a deal and now I've gone from a 2 GMC vehicle family to a RAM and a Lincoln family.  Guess I need to start a new thread on the new ride!

I don't know what the 3500 SRW has for springs on the truck's without the air assist but I can tell you that my camper is HEAVY on the pin and it squats mine only about 2-2.5 inches. Obviously the air system picks it right back up after a few seconds but without the air it would hold it just fine.

Thanks everyone!  Tomorrow will be the first time i hook it up to the RAM to take it for a quick trip to the RV dealer for a couple of quick fixes.

I am having an issue now, though...My Columbus has one of those extended pin boxes and I have an anderson hitch.  My problem is the pin box being WAY too close to the bed rails and tailgate of my truck.  I can extend the hitch up another 2" but that means I am way too nose high on my trailer.  I will take a picture in the morning and post it for you guys to see.  Would welcome any feedback/thoughts.
